Albert Pfister , von Pfister since 1888 , (born May 6, 1839 in Münster , † October 19, 1907 in Trossingen ) was a Württemberg major general and writer .

Life

family

Pfister was the eldest son of the pastor of Mergentheim . His grandfather was the historian and general superintendent of Tübingen Johann Christian von Pfister . On February 2, 1872, Pfister married Emma Fischer from Ludwigsburg, daughter of the brewery owner Adolf Fischer. She was born on February 20, 1852 and died on July 11, 1926 in Cannstatt. The couple is buried in Stuttgart.

Military career

First he attended the Latin school in Waiblingen and in 1853 entered the theological seminar in Blaubeuren . After four years, Pfister did not change to the university , but came to the war school in Ludwigsburg as a cadet . In 1859 he was employed as a porter ensign in the 8th Infantry Regiment of the Württemberg Army and in the same year he was promoted to lieutenant during the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War . In 1862 he took a year off to visit the University of Tübingen . Pfister devoted himself to the study of history and was significantly influenced by the historian Reinhold Pauli who taught there . This was followed by his employment as a geography teacher at the Ludwigsburg War School. This activity was interrupted in 1866 through participation as first lieutenant and battalion adjutant during the war against Prussia . During the war against France , Pfister was a member of the Landwehr in Ulm in 1870/71 . In 1872 he was transferred to the 1st Württemberg Infantry Regiment No. 119 as a company commander while being promoted to captain . This is followed by use in closed 2nd Württemberg Infantry Regiment. 120 , where Pfister 1880 the character as a Major and on May 23, 1881 appointment as-budgetary staff officer , the patent was awarded to his rank. After serving as a battalion commander in the Grenadier Regiment "Queen Olga" (1st Württembergisches) No. 119, Pfister was commissioned on January 19, 1885 with the post of regular staff officer in the 8th Infantry Regiment No. 126. During his active military service, Pfister published various works on war history. After his departure he worked exclusively as a writer. After the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Tübingen awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1895 , Pfister was given the title of Dr. jur. hc from Johns Hopkins University , Baltimore .
