Alborosie (born Alberto d'Ascola on July 4, 1977 in Marsala , Sicily ) is a reggae musician and lives in Kingston , Jamaica .

Career

He began his musical career in the band Reggae National Tickets . In 2001 Alborosie decided to start a solo career. He moved from Italy to Jamaica to get closer to the roots of reggae music and to get to know the Rastafarian culture.

He has already worked with artists such as Gentleman . His first solo album Soul Pirate was a huge success.

In summer 2007 Alborosie performed at the Cologne Summerjam Festival, in August 2008 at the Uppsala Reggae Festival , in August 2010 at the Chiemsee Reggae Summer Festival and in July 2012, 2013 and 2016 again at the Summerjam Festival. Alborosie also appeared several times at the Ruhr Reggae Summer Festival, most recently in July 2019.

In 2010 he published a limited compilation of (some older, already published) duets under the title Alborosie & Friends , which includes pieces with Horace Andy , Luciano , Busy Signal , Sizzla and Black Uhuru , among others . The double CD was re-released in 2014.

Alborosie's greatest hits are Herbalist , Rastafarian Anthem , Kingston Town , and Call Up Jah . The video for "Herbalist" was temporarily banned in Jamaica because of its strong relationship with the drug trade. At the MOBO Awards 2011 in Glasgow he was recognized as best reggae artist.
