Albrecht of Lamezan

Gustav Albrecht Freiherr von Lamezan (born August 9, 1878 in Helsingfors , † December 24, 1947 in Beijing ) was a German officer and paramilitary activist.

Life and activity

Lamezan was a son of the diplomat Ferdinand von Lamezan (* 1843) and his wife Magdalene, geb. Hauff (* 1853). In 1897 he graduated from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich . He then went on to become an officer in the Bavarian Army . In 1914 he served in the Bavarian Infantry Body Regiment.

During the First World War, Lamezan worked as an employee of Colonel Nicolai in the intelligence department of the Supreme Army Command.

In 1920 Lamezan retired from military service as a captain. In the 1920s he headed the Berlin headquarters of the intelligence service, which was first organized by the Reichswehr and later privately run, and operated behind the facade of the commercial company Deutscher Überseedienst (DÜD), located in the Krausenhof .

In addition, he was active in a leading position in the Front Soldiers Association Stahlhelm . He was also a member of the German Men's Club .

In 1932 Lamezan went from Chiang Kai-shek to the Republic of China as a military advisor , where he took over the training of Kai-shek's secret service officers.

Lamezan was married to Elisabeth Freiin von Bonnet and Meautry (* 1886), with whom he had a daughter: Maria Magdalene Karoline Hedwig (* April 19, 1906).
