Alejandro Ferrant y Fischermans (born September 9, 1843 in Madrid , † January 20, 1917 there ) was a Spanish painter.

Ferant studied painting at the Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando with his uncle Luis Ferrant y Llausás . With a grant from the Spanish government, he went to Rome in 1874. There he studied at the Academia Española de Bellas Artes and made friends with artists such as Francisco Pradilla , Casto Plasencia , Jaime Morera , Baldomero Galofre and Manual Castellano . His first large history paintings, San Sebastián en la Cloaca Máxima , which had great success at the Academia de Roma exhibition in 1877 and received first prize at the 1878 exhibition, La Disputa del Sacramento and Desfile de las tropas francesas delante del pabellón español, were created in Rome en el Palacio del Trocadero (1879).

In 1880 Ferrant returned to Spain and entered the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando . He was also professor of painting at the Escuela Central de Artes y Oficios and from 1903 director of the Museo de Arte Moderno .
