Alexander Ziemowit ( also: Aleksander Mazowiecki ; * 1400 in Płock , Poland , † June 4, 1444 in Vienna ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church .

origin

Alexander was the fourth son of Ziemowit IV († April 30, 1426), Duke of Mazovia , and of Alexandra of Lithuania († June 19, 1434, 19th child of Olgierd ), a sister of King Władysław II Jagiełło of Poland . His sister Cimburgis was married to (Arch) Duke Ernst I of Austria .

Life

Alexander studied at the University of Krakow . In 1424 he became Prince Bishop of Trento . Antipope Felix V appointed him cardinal ( pseudocardinal ) on October 12, 1440 with the titular church of San Lorenzo in Damaso .

From 1442 until his death, Alexander was Provost of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. A few days before his death, on June 2, 1444, he was made Patriarch of Aquileia . After his death, Alexander found his final resting place in the women's choir of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
