Alessandro Alessandroni
Alessandro Alessandroni (born March 16, 1925 in Rome ; † March 26, 2017 there ) was an Italian musician and composer . He played various musical instruments, including guitar , mandolin , sitar , accordion , piano and composed the film music for over 40 films.
Life
Alessandroni grew up in Soriano nel Cimino north of Rome. His parents owned a hairdresser's shop that also played music. “We had musical instruments there: guitar, mandolin and mandola .” He learned to play the guitar and bought a mandolin when he was 13. As a young musician he occupied himself with the folk music of his home region of Lazio . Towards the end of his school days he played dance music on the weekends. He went on a trip through Europe, played the piano and sang in various clubs. Back in Italy, Alessandroni founded the vocal quartet Le 4 caravelle and appeared on the popular TV show Canzonissima . As a piper and guitarist, Alessandroni worked with his childhood friend, Ennio Morricone , on many film scores for spaghetti westerns .
Morricone's orchestration is often an unusual combination of instruments and voices. Alessandroni can be heard as a piper in, among others, the score for Sergio Leone's films For a Fistful of Dollars , For a Few Dollars More and Play Me the Song of Death . His vocal quartet expanded to a 16-member group and was called I Cantori Moderni . As a freelance composer, he was also responsible for film music. Alessandroni gave concerts all over Europe until he was old. Alessandroni and his choir can be heard on the album Rome by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi , released in 2011.
