Alexander Alexandrovich Deineka ( Russian Александр Александрович Дейнека ; born May 8 . Jul / 20th May 1899 greg. In Kursk ; † 12. June 1969 in Moscow ) was a Russian painter , graphic artist and sculptor.
Life
Alexander Deineka initially studied from 1915 to 1917 at the Kharkov Art School . In 1917 he broke off his studies there and went to the Red Army . In 1918 he worked as a photographer for the criminal police in Kursk and at the same time worked as head of the fine arts department of the government department for popular education. From 1919 to 1920 he worked for the agitation edition of the Rosta Windows and headed the art studio of the Kursk political administration. In 1921 he went to Moscow and studied at the WChUTEMAS (Russian ВХУТЕМАС), an avant-garde design school, with Vladimir Faworsky graphics. In 1928 he founded the artist group Октябр ( October group ) with others and was initially influenced by Ferdinand Hodler in his penchant for monumentality . In 1931/32 he became a member of the Russian Association of Proletarian Artists and from 1932 a member of the Moscow Department of the Soviet Artists Association . In the following years he developed into the main representative of socialist realism in the Soviet Union . There he was later one of the most important book and magazine illustrators and also received orders for wall paintings and mosaics.
Awards
In 1937 Alexander Deineka was awarded the gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition . From 1960 he was a member of the CPSU and from 1962 to 1966 Vice President of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR .
On March 18, 2003 the asteroid (9514) Deineka was named after him.
