Alexander Axén (born October 15, 1970 ) is a former Swedish football player . Occasionally he worked as a trainer for the Allsvenskan , among others , and now works as an expert on Swedish television.

Career

Axén grew up in Örebro and started playing football at Örebro SK . In the men's area he ran for Rynninge IK and BK Forward in the lower class, for the latter he played temporarily in the second class.

After the end of his active career, Axén took over the coaching position at Rynninge IK in 2000 . With the third division , he initially reached top positions in the league, in 2002 the team was five points behind BK Forward vice-champion of Division 2 Västra Svealand . In 2004, Axén rose with the club in the fourth division and managed there as a season winner the qualification for the new, now fourth-class Division 2 Västra Svealand .

In 2007 Axén went to Norway in the Tippeligaen to protect IK Start from relegation with his compatriot Benny Lennartsson . When the company failed, he returned to Sweden and was hired by his youth club Örebro SK in the 2008 season as assistant coach to the newly signed Sixten Boström .

In December 2008 GAIS announced the engagement of Axén as the new head coach after the previous coach Magnus Pehrsson had left the club for Aalborg BK . He signed a three-year contract with the Gothenburg club. Under his leadership, the team was placed in the lower middle of the table, initially placed twice, before they surprised in the 2011 season and temporarily played for a place in the European Cup . As a result, the club extended his contract in September 2011. On July 22nd, 2012 he resigned at his own request, the previous assistant coach Kjell Pettersson subsequently took over his duties on an interim basis.

In June 2013 Axén returned as an assistant coach to his youth club, the first division club Örebro SK. There he inherited the previous head coach Per-Ola Ljung, who had resigned from his position, the following summer . While he placed himself with the team in the middle of the table, he moved into the final with her in the 2014/15 national cup . A few days after he left his coaching position at ÖSK, the media company C More hired Axén as an expert in reporting for Swedish professional football. Shortly after the end of the 2017 season, he extended the agreement to 2019. In March 2018, TV4 also hired him as an expert for the upcoming 2018 World Cup in Russia . He then stayed with C More as an expert on the national championship. In September 2019 he announced his departure at the end of the current season. In November of that year, his move to the Swedish branch of Discovery became known, which, among other things, looked after the broadcaster Eurosport and had taken over the broadcasting rights to Allsvenskan from the 2020 season .
