Alexander Büttner (born February 11, 1989 in Doetinchem , Netherlands ) is a Dutch football player who is currently under contract with New England Revolution in the USA. He plays in the left full- back position .

Career

In the club

Büttner comes from a football-loving family. He has a brother and two half-brothers who also play soccer. His father is also a former soccer player.

As a ten-year-old Büttner joined the youth team at Ajax Amsterdam and commuted daily between Amsterdam and his home town Doetinchem . In 2005 he moved to Vitesse Arnheim , where he played until 2012. On March 15, 2008 he made his debut there under coach Aad de Mos in the professional team when he came on in the 4-3 defeat by Twente Enschede in the 5th minute for Haim Megrelishvili . From the following season Büttner played regularly in the professional team and developed into a regular at Vitesse.

On August 21, 2012, Manchester United announced the commitment of Büttner. Büttner signed a five-year contract with the Red Devils until June 30, 2017, the transfer fee was around 4 million pounds. On September 15, 2012, Büttner completed his first league assignment for the new club. In the 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic , he also scored his first goal in the Premier League after a solo run and provided the template for a goal from Chicharito . In total, Büttner made 23 appearances and scored five goals for Manchester United.

After United signed the left full-back Luke Shaw in June 2014 , Büttner was given over to Dynamo Moscow for £ 4.4 million shortly thereafter , which loaned him to Anderlecht for one season. In 2017 he returned to the old place of work in Arnhem. In November 2019 he signed a contract with New England Revolution .

In the national team

In the run-up to the European Football Championship 2012 , Büttner was surprisingly nominated by Bert van Marwijk instead of Edson Braafheid in the provisional squad of the Dutch national team after Erik Pieters was unavailable due to an injury. However, Büttner was not in the final squad. Instead, eighteen-year-old Jetro Willems was given preference.
