Alexander Bertrand
Alexander Bertrand (born October 27, 1877 in Darmstadt , † April 22, 1947 in Düsseldorf ) was a German genre and interior painter from the Düsseldorf School .
Life
Bertrand first attended the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts . In 1894 he enrolled at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , where he became a student of the elementary class under Heinrich Lauenstein . The further training at the Düsseldorf Academy shaped the teachers Peter Janssen the Elder , Arthur Kampf and Claus Meyer .
Bertrand settled permanently in Düsseldorf (Jahnstrasse 43, Düsseldorf-Oberkassel) and has participated in numerous important exhibitions with his work since 1902. The depiction of motifs from monastery life, which he composed with effective coloring, occupy a special place in his work. From 1908 to 1917 he was a member of the artists' association “Malkasten” in Düsseldorf.
