Alexander Payer (born September 12, 1989 ) is an Austrian snowboarder . He starts in the parallel disciplines.

Career

Payer has been taking part in the European Cup since 2005. He has achieved 20 podium finishes so far, eight of them wins. In the 2019/20 season he took first place, in the 2012/13 season second and in the 2015/16 season third in the parallel ranking. He also won the parallel slalom classification in the 2015/16 and 2019/20 seasons (as of the end of the 2019/20 season).

At the 2007 Snowboard Junior World Championships in Bad Gastein , Payer came 14th in the parallel giant slalom. In the following year he succeeded in the Junior World Championships in Chiesa in Valmalenco 14th place in the parallel giant slalom and tenth place in the parallel slalom. He made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup in January 2010 on Kreischberg , which he finished in 54th place in the parallel giant slalom. In December 2013 he achieved his first top ten and podium finish in the World Cup with second place in the parallel slalom in Carezza .

At the end of the 2013/14 season he achieved 13th place in the Parallel World Cup and ninth place in the Parallel Slalom World Cup. In March 2014, he became the Austrian giant slalom champion in Falkert . At the 2015 Winter Universiade in Sierra Nevada , he won the bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom. In the 2015/16 season he achieved three top ten placements in the World Cup, 14th place in the Parallel World Cup, 12th place in the Parallel Giant Slalom World Cup and tenth place in the Parallel Slalom World Cup. In the following season he came in nine World Cup appearances twice under the top ten places, including third place in the parallel slalom in Winterberg . He finished 17th in the Parallel World Cup and sixth in the Parallel Slalom World Cup. At the season highlight of the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , he came 31st in the parallel giant slalom and 14th in the parallel slalom. In the 2017/18 season he took five top ten placements, including third place in the parallel giant slalom in Lackenhof and first place in the parallel giant slalom in Cortina d'Ampezzo , eighth place in the parallel world cup and fourth place in the Parallel Slalom World Cup. In the parallel giant slalom held as part of the 2018 Winter Olympics , he was eliminated on February 24 in the South Korean city ​​of Pyeongchang in the round of 16 and finished in ninth place. The following year he drove to 11th place in the parallel giant slalom at the World Championships in Park City .

In the 2019/20 season, Payer finished in the top ten five times in the World Cup and was thus tenth in the Parallel World Cup, ninth in the Parallel Giant Slalom World Cup and eighth in the Parallel Slalom World Cup.
