Alexander Rausch

Alexander Rausch (* 1971 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musicologist .

Life

Rausch studied musicology and Romance languages at the University of Vienna from 1989 to 1996 . In 1994 he completed an Erasmus semester abroad at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich. From 1995 to 2000 he worked in two FWF projects on the music-theoretical sources of the Middle Ages in Austria. In 1997 he received his doctorate from Walter Pass with a thesis on "The music tracts of the abbot Bern von Reichenau " at the University of Vienna.

Since 2003 he has been working in the musicology department of the Institute for Art and Music History Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. From 2003 to 2006 he worked on the Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon . From 2007 to 2015 he was involved in the project “Music - Identity - Space”. From 2008 to 2015 he was the scientific director of two FWF projects on medieval music manuscripts in the Austrian National Library in Vienna. In 2015 he took over the management of the OeAW working group “Complete editions, editions and source documentation”.

His main research interests are the music of the Middle Ages , early modern musical representation and the composer and music theorist Johann Joseph Fux . He is a member of the Society for Music Research , the Austrian Society for Musicology , the Anton Bruckner Institute Linz , the International Gustav Mahler Society and the Society for Bavarian Music History .
