Alexander du Prel

Alexander du Prel (* 1970 in Bad Kissingen , Lower Franconia ) is a German cameraman .

Life

As the son of the medical couple Maximilian Freiherr von du Prel and Gesa Tilmara Freifrau von du Prel born. Tjaden he grew up in Bad Kissingen as one of seven children. During his school days at the Bad Kissingen grammar school , he was a student representative for nine years and worked for the school newspaper Voice u. a. as a picture editor. In addition, du Prel wrote as a freelancer for the local newspapers Saale Zeitung and Main Post .

In 1990, while still at school, he started working as a stage photographer at the Franconian Theater Schloss Maßbach and worked until 1998.

Between 1992 and 1994 du Prel played in various roles as an actor at the theater ensemble Würzburg u. a. Prince Philip in Witold Gombrowicz's Yvonne - the Burgundy Princess , directed by Roman Malinowsky. From 1994 he studied visual communication / art in the film and television class with Manfred Vosz at the University of Kassel . His most important teacher there was (next to Günter Reisch , Michael Dudok de Wit and Roman Malinowski) Kazimierz Bendkowski .

In 1998 he staged Draussen in front of Wolfgang Borchert's door at the theater ensemble Würzburg , where he played the role of the other after an actor was absent due to illness . Between 1998 and 2000 du Prel then studied film in the master class of Michael Ballhaus at the University of Hamburg . In addition to Ballhaus, he had a. a. Seminars with Wadim Jussow , Raoul Coutard , Witold Sobociński , Jerzy Wójcik , Karl Walter Lindenlaub and dramaturgy with Sacha Mitta . He completed his studies in 2000 with summa cum laude with the diploma film Ist gut Jetzt (Prod .: Sven Halfar, Director: Frank Nesemann). In 2001 he attended the Budapest Summer School with László Kovács and Vilmos Zsigmond .

Various awards were also associated with Ist gut Jetzt, including the Student Camera Award (2000) and the short film category of the German Camera Award (2001). With the production of Liliom at the Thalia Theater Hamburg 2000, du Prel began working several times as a video artist for Michael Thalheimer in the following years .

In parallel, you led Prel in a series of short films (52), the camera and turned to Sergei Bodrov the documentary Drunken Sailor on the Tiger Lillies , with Alfred Behrens the documentary essay The game without the ball that for the Adolf Grimme Prize nomination and the documentary Smart Farmers with Götz Penner. In late autumn 2008 du Prel shot the feature film Swansong - Story of Occi Byrne in Ireland under the direction of Conor McDermottroe, which was nominated for a Golden Frog by Camerimage in 2010, along with other nominations and awards.

Alexander du Prel lives and works in Hamburg and Berlin.
