Alfonso Broqua

Alfonso Broqua (born September 11, 1876 in Montevideo , † November 24, 1946 in Paris ) was a Uruguayan composer.

Broqua was a student of Vincent d'Indy at the Schola Cantorum in Paris and of César Franck in Brussels . He worked as a music teacher in Montevideo and later lived as a freelance composer in Paris. In addition to two operas and a cantata , he mainly composed songs and piano pieces that were stylistically influenced by d'Indy. Broqua is considered the founder of the independent musical development of Uruguay.
