Alfred August Ludwig Gottfried Keßler , von Keßler since 1882 , (born January 13, 1833 in Luxembourg , † August 10, 1907 in Bullay ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

origin

Keßler's ancestors came from the Palatinate to the Saalkreis in the Duchy of Magdeburg at the end of the 17th century . He was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant Colonel Johann Friedrich August Keßler (1806–1878) and his wife Luise Emilie Karoline, née Brée (1814–1841).

Military career

Keßler attended the garrison school and the grammar school in Trier and then the cadet schools in Bensberg and Berlin . On April 26, 1851, he entered the 2nd engineer inspection of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant . Just a few days later he was transferred to the 8th Pioneer Division. Years later he was promoted to the rank of major general on May 27, 1882 in Potsdam as head of department in the Great General Staff to the Prussian nobility . On May 15, 1886, Keßler was initially commissioned to lead the 28th Division , promoted to Lieutenant General on September 18, and appointed Division Commander on December 4, 1886. Keßler was removed from this post on March 23, 1890 and then appointed General Inspector of Military Education . At the same time he acted from April 28, 1891 as a permanent member of the State Defense Commission. Keßler married Marie Werner (* 1837) on May 19, 1860 in Koblenz . Both lived in Bullay. The marriage had six children:
