Allenbach is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Herrstein-Rhaunen community .
geography
Allenbach is located in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park . The Hüttgeswasen residential area also belongs to the community . Allenbach is a national park community in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park .
history
When Ellenbach was first mentioned in 1265, Allenbach was then part of the County of Sponheim . In 1601 Ellenburg became Allenbach Castle, which is now in the center of Allenbach. Charles IV (Lorraine) (1604–1675), Duke of Lorraine , died on September 18, 1675 in Allenbach during a campaign in the service of the emperor.
In the second half of the 18th century, the woodcutter and charcoal burner Johann Peter Petri , known as Black Peter, who achieved notoriety as a robber, lived and worked in Hüttgeswasen zu Allenbach for about twelve years . He is said to have invented the Schwarzer Peter card game in prison .
In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the left bank of the Rhine . Under French administration, Allenbach belonged to the canton of Rhaunen in the Saardepartement from 1798 to 1814 . The region was awarded to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. From 1816 to the community Allenbach the new belonged Bernkastel in Trier , from 1822 to part of the Rhine Province , and was supported by the mayor Wirschweiler managed.
In February 1898, Allenbach Castle was bought by the Idar businessman Max Purper. The Evangelical Castle Church is located near the castle and has been home to a Stumm organ since 1832 .
As part of the first Rhineland-Palatinate administrative reform , Allenbach was incorporated into the Birkenfeld district in 1969 with some surrounding communities .

The local council in Allenbach consists of twelve council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the directly elected honorary local mayor as chairman.

Siegfried Burmann became mayor of Allenbach in 2004. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was confirmed in his office for another five years with a share of the vote of 56.57%.
