Alois Niederstätter

Alois Niederstätter (born January 10, 1955 in Bregenz ) is an Austrian historian and archivist . From 2001 to 2018 he was the state archivist and head of the Vorarlberg state archive .

Life

Alois Niederstätter studied history and German literature at the University of Salzburg , in 1980 he received his doctorate with that of Heinrich Koller supervised work "Emperor Frederick III. and Lindau. Investigations into the network of relationships between imperial city and ruler in the second half of the 15th century "on the Dr. phil. From 1981 Niederstätter worked as an archivist at the Vorarlberg State Archives in Bregenz , and in 2001 he took over the management of Karl Heinz Burmeister as the successor . After his retirement he was followed by Ulrich Nachbaur, his deputy to date, as state archivist.

Niederstätter completed his habilitation in 1991 at the University of Salzburg in the subject " Historical auxiliary sciences and Alemannic national history" ( Habilitation thesis : "The Old Zurich War. Studies on the Austrian-Confederate conflict in the late Middle Ages and the politics of King Friedrich III."). Since 1988 he has been teaching at the Universities of Innsbruck , Salzburg , Vienna and Zurich , and in 2000 he was awarded the title of “Associate University Professor”. Niederstätter has been a member of the Institute for Austrian Historical Research since 1983 . He is a member of numerous commissions, advisory boards and scientific societies. From 2007 to 2015 he was President of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings .

His research and publication focus are: Vorarlberg regional history, history of the Alemannic area in the Middle Ages, Austrian history of the late Middle Ages and historical auxiliary sciences.
