Alwiya Fajr al-Ḥurriyya is the coalition of individual brigades fighting in the Syrian civil war . A well-known brigade of this coalition is the Katāʾib Shams asch-Shimāl . The association itself joined the Burkān al-Furāt alliance in September 2014 , which fought on the side of the Defending People's Defense Units (YPG) in the Battle of Kobanê .
