Amorim Vieira

Amorim Aiver Vieira (born March 3, 1974 in Pairara , Portuguese Timor ) was a candidate for the 2017 presidential election in East Timor .

Career

After completing his first degree, Vieira and six friends were granted political asylum in Portugal in 1996 during the Indonesian occupation . Three months later, however, Vieira moved to Great Britain in 1997 and became involved in the East Timorese independence movement. In 1999 he moved to Scotland . In July 1999, Vieira graduated in German Wustrow training for the independence referendum in East Timor on 30 August , but then returned to Scotland. In Kirkcaldy he went to St. Andrews High School (Worthing) and from 2001 Vieira studied according to his own statements at Edinburgh Napier University and graduated here in 2005. In East Kilbride , Vieira was active for the Scottish National Party .

In 2005 Vieira returned to East Timor and worked for the United Nations . From 2012 to early 2016, he worked as a political and consular assistant in the United States Embassy in East Timor .

On January 25, 2017, Vieira submitted his candidacy as an independent presidential candidate to the Tribunal de Recurso de Timor-Leste . In the March 20th vote, Vieira received just 0.83% of the vote.
