Office of Kasteln
The office of Kasteln was a bailiff in the Bernese Aargau in Switzerland .
In 1732, Bern acquired the rule of Kasteln for 90,000 thalers from the heirs of General Johann Ludwig von Erlach in order to reduce the number of court lords and to expand and round off the area directly under him. The bailiwick comprised the villages of Auenstein, Oberflachs, Schinznach and Villnachern, which were administered by twelve bailiffs until 1794. The city council of Bern appointed a bailiff.
