management

The previous President of the District Court was Heiko Raabe, Vice President was Sibylle Umlauf. On January 14, 2009, the judges' selection committee elected Hans-Dietrich Rzadtki as the new President of the Hamburg District Court, with Guido Christensen as Vice-President.

history

When the Reich Justice Acts came into force in 1879, there were three local courts in Hamburg: Hamburg, Ritzebüttel ( Cuxhaven ) and Bergedorf. Due to the territorial reorganization through the Greater Hamburg Law of 1937, Cuxhaven was eliminated, and the district courts of Altona, Blankenese and Wandsbek were added from the district of the previous district court of Altona and the district court of Harburg-Wilhelmsburg from the district of the district court of Stade . Hamburg-Barmbek followed in 2002, Hamburg-St. George.

Others

In March 2009, arrest warrants made headlines, which the Hamburg District Court issued in the case of the Hamburg container ship Courier for a joint attack on maritime traffic against nine Somalis who were captured by the German Navy on March 3 in the Red Sea. However, there was no trial in Germany because the accused were handed over to the Kenyan judiciary on the basis of an agreement dated March 6, 2009. This released the suspects on November 9, 2010, all on the grounds of a lack of jurisdiction for crimes outside the Kenyan territorial waters.

On the other hand, the arrest warrants issued by the Hamburg District Court on April 10, 2010 against ten Somalis in the case of the Hamburg freighter Taipan , which the Hamburg District Court sentenced on October 19, 2012 to six and seven years 'imprisonment and two years' youth imprisonment, were in effect.
