Anabasis
Anabasis ( Greek ἀνάβασις "up march" [from the coast inland]) is the title of several writings that have come down to us from ancient Greece .
- The best-known anabasis is Xenophon's description of the campaign of the younger Cyrus against Artaxerxes II. Xenophon describes above all the repatriation of the approximately 10,000 Greek soldiers after the battle of Kunaxa, which was won militarily but became invalid due to the death of Cyrus, in 401 BC. For this work see Anabasis (Xenophon) .
- Anabasis is also the name of the seven books of Arrian of Nicomedeia, who was a high Roman administrative official under Hadrian and lastly governor in Cappadocia . His depiction of the campaigns of Alexander the Great is considered to be the most factual ancient Alexander story .
Also the campaign of Antiochus III. to the " upper provinces ", especially Parthia and Bactria , in the years 212–204 BC. BC became known as anabasis .
