Anatoly Anatoljewitsch Semjonow ( Russian Анатолий Анатольевич Семёнов ; born March 5, 1962 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet - Russian ice hockey player who has been working as a coach since 2009.
Career
Anatoly Semjonow comes from the youth department of Dynamo Moscow and made his debut on March 5, 1980 for the men's team of the club in the top division of the Soviet Union, the Vysschaya League . He scored his first goal on March 17, 1980. In the following years he took third place in the championship several times with Dynamo, and in 1983 he won the Spengler Cup with his team. In 1985, 1986 and 1987 he was Soviet runner-up with Dynamo, before he finally became Soviet champions in 1990 (as team captain) . He had previously been selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1989 Semjonow in the 6th round in 120th position by the Edmonton Oilers . In total, Semjonow scored 154 goals in 375 games in the Wysschaya League.
In 1990 he moved, shortly after winning the Soviet championship, during the play-offs to the Oilers in the National Hockey League . The Oilers won the Stanley Cup that season , but since he was not used in any of the finals, his name was not engraved on the cup. He would have been the first Russian to have been immortalized on the trophy. So it was not until 1994 that some of his compatriots succeeded. Other stations in his career in the NHL were Tampa Bay Lightning , Vancouver Canucks , Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabers . In the NHL, he brought it to 362 regular season games with 68 goals and 126 assists, and 49 playoff games with nine goals and 13 assists.
International
On April 21, 1981 he was in a game against Czechoslovakia for the first time for the Soviet national team on the ice. His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics . For the national team, he scored 33 goals in 120 international matches. On April 5, 1990, he played his last international match.
As a trainer
Semjonow has been working as a trainer since 2009, from 2009 to 2012 as a junior trainer for the Silver Lions from Saint Petersburg ( Russian Серебряные Львы Санкт-Петербург ). With these he entered from 2010 in the Molodjoschnaja hockey league . Between 2012 and 2014 he was head coach at HK WMF Saint Petersburg and HK WMF-Karelija , before he was hired as assistant coach by HK Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk for the 2014/15 season , but was dismissed at the end of January 2015.
