André Dupeyrat

André Dupeyrat (* 1902 , † 1982 ) was a French missionary , historian and ethnologist . He belonged to the order of the Sacred Heart Missionaries ( Missionnaires du Sacré-Cœur d'Issoudun ; Latin: missionarii sacratissimi cordis ; MSC for short ) founded on December 8, 1854 by Père Jules Chevalier (1824–1907) in Issoudun , Diocese of Bourges or MSC ).

Dupeyrat worked with Papuan tribes in New Guinea . His book "21 ans chez les Papous" (1952), which appeared in German strongly abbreviated under the title "21 years with the cannibals" and describes his stay with the Papuans from 1930 to 1951, became a bestseller in France and received the 1953 Prix ​​Juteau-Duvigneaux awarded by the Académie française . His work Le sanglier de Kouni had received the Prix ​​Marcellin Guérin from the same academy in 1951 . His books have been translated into many languages.
