Work and political positions

On developments in the family and gender model

Günter sees the intensity of the debate in Germany on the compatibility of family and work as a concealment of other issues. In particular, an intensive discussion about women and family friendliness and the child question conceal a perplexity with regard to the general development of gender relations and society. In particular, the general disadvantage of highly qualified women, including those without children, is seen from the social field. She emphasizes that long before a woman entering the monastery could represent a step towards liberation, and that, for example, working in the Red Cross as a nurse or as head of a clinic meant a pleasant job with influence or a management position with power and the opportunity to develop . For emancipation it is crucial that women have a right to the public , in particular, according to Hannah Arendt , she calls “a right to the public, that is, a right to see and be seen, to speak and to be heard ". According to Günter, the universities in particular should be emphasized as a public place .

With regard to the gender issue and the reallocation of money and resources between the sexes, Günter says that the breadwinner model has de facto been suspended for a long time, probably since the mid-1990s. In this context, she refers to a termination of the social and gender contract : Since, in view of falling real wages, it can hardly be guaranteed that an average wage can finance a family, and families are increasingly dependent on additional earnings , “the conservatives have no choice either Promoting the employment of women should not make even more people dependent on the state ”.

Economy

With regard to economic relationships, Günter emphasizes the position of economic scientist Luise Gubitzer , according to which there are different logics of economics, which are accompanied by heterogeneous relationships between economy and state. Günter sees the financial crisis as a cultural crisis, and it emphasizes the importance of the question of why the real economy produced the speculative economy. In this context, she emphasizes the role of politics as a creator of reality and assesses sustainability as "the only contemporary measure of the real economy if it is not to remain a speculative economy". She sees it as the urgent task of politics, the state and the western world today to “stand up in a clear way for comprehensive sustainability”.
