Andreas Behm (1985)

Andreas Behm (born November 28, 1962 in Stralsund ; † December 27, 2021 ) was a German weightlifter in the lightweight class .

Career

Between 1971 and 2000 he took part in numerous sporting competitions and during this period he set 21 national records in the GDR and three world records. The high point of his career was winning the bronze medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona .

For this he received the silver bay leaf on June 23, 1993.

A runner-up world championship in a duel and two European championship titles complete his list of successes. The last significant title win was the 1998 German championship in Regen . Andreas Behm won 38 medals at the Olympic Games as well as World and European Championships. He is the most successful German weightlifter.

Andreas Behm started for BSG Motor Stralsund and TSV 1860 Stralsund .

In 2000, the exceptional athlete said goodbye to active competitive sport.

Andreas Behm lived in Stralsund and trained the youth team of TSV 1860 Stralsund. Behm was married and the father of weightlifter Robert "Robby" Behm .
