Andreas Blinkenberg

Andreas Peter Damsgaard Blinkenberg (born February 18, 1893 in Aarhus , † February 22, 1982 ) was a Danish Romanist .

Life

Blinkenberg, nephew of the classical archaeologist Christian Blinkenberg , graduated from high school in Aarhus in 1911. He studied philology and philosophy at the University of Copenhagen and passed the cand. Mag exam in 1918 . in French, English and Danish. From 1921 to 1923 he was a lecturer in Danish at the Sorbonne . He did his doctorate in Copenhagen on Ernest Renan. Bidrag til Belysning af hans filosofisk-Religøse Ungdomskrise [Ernest Renan. A contribution to the research of his philosophical-religious youth crisis] (Copenhagen 1923). From 1925 to 1928 he was an assistant for French at the University of Copenhagen. In 1928 he became a lecturer in Aarhus , where he was professor of French from 1934 and professor of Romance philology from 1941 to 1963. During this time he was also rector from 1937 to 1940 . Blinkenberg was involved in international university cooperation and was a member of the Danish UNESCO Commission from 1948 to 1958, and from 1964 he was a delegate to UNESCO and the General Conference of the Association Internationale des Universités .

Blinkenberg was a member from 1944 of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences , from 1945 of the Royal Science and Literature Society in Gothenburg , from 1964 of the Académie Nationale des Sciences, Belles-Lettres et Arts de Bordeaux . In 1971 he became an honorary member of the Société de Linguistique Romane . He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Dijon in 1961 . Blinkenberg was commander of the Dannebrogden and knight of the Legion of Honor .
