Andreas Bohnenstengel (born June 9, 1970 in Munich ) is a German photo artist. He lives and works in Munich.

Life

Andreas Bohnenstengel initially worked as a press photographer for the daily Münchner Merkur from 1991 to 1994 , then for magazines such as B. Der Spiegel , stern and Eltern , the Rolf Müller office , as well as for organizations, mostly from the nonprofit sector such. B. the Diakonisches Werk Bayern . He has been exhibiting regularly since 1993 and has been teaching photography since 2004, e. B. at the Ravensburg School of Design . Supported by a scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation , he studied social economics (economics, business administration, law and sociology) at the University of Hamburg from 2003 to 2006 , which he graduated with a degree in business administration. He is the father of two daughters.

methodology

Andreas Bohnenstengel is an artist who uses photography to conduct field research using the documentary method and phenomenologically examines social facts and interaction processes . He bases this on a humanistic paradigm that focuses on people and their needs. To this end, he is looking for images that illustrate the essential in the random and point beyond the moment. Concepts from the Ulm School of Design have an influence on his way of designing .

plant

Bohnenstengel deals with society in his conceptual works, which are primarily implemented with photographic means. In doing so, he refers to the social concept of systems theory by Niklas Luhmann . In the 1990s, in the two cycles "Childhood in Asylum" and "Walter, Down Syndrome", he addressed the two constitutional amendments of 1993 and 1994 based on real people in real situations, as well as the first foreign deployment of the Bundeswehr (in Kosovo). The work was published frequently at the time, e.g. B. in Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin and Zeit-Magazin . Frequently on behalf of youth magazines, he created milieu studies on the then differentiated youth culture , on the occasion of the introduction of the Internet and complementary to his work for business magazines (at that time a lot was reported about the New Economy ), he developed black and white documentation on trade and markets (Old Economy ). From the perspective of a war's grandson, he artistically deals with violence. Since 2014 he has been working on photo installations and interventions across rooms , some in collaboration , such as B. the artist and architect collective raumzeug .
