Andreas Kablitz

Andreas Kablitz (born November 8, 1957 in Aachen ) is a German Romance scholar and comparativeist at the University of Cologne and director of the Petrarca Institute there.

Life

After graduating from the Nicolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium in 1976 in Bergisch Gladbach, Kablitz studied Romance studies and history at the University of Cologne. In 1981 he became a research assistant at the Institute for Romance Philology at the Free University of Berlin at the chair of Klaus W. Hempfer . In 1983 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the Méditations poétiques by Alphonse de Lamartine , in 1987 he received his habilitation on The Discussion of the Ridiculum in the 16th Century in Italy. The beginnings of the modern theory of the comic in the Italian Renaissance . In 1989, Kablitz followed the call to a C3 professorship for Romance Philology at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen . A year later, Kablitz accepted the chair for Italian Philology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After four years, another appointment brought him back to his home university: Since 1994 Kablitz has been teaching in Cologne as a professor of Romance philology and general and comparative literature and is director of the Petrarca Institute. In 2004 and 2011 he turned down offers to the Free University of Berlin.

Among other things, Kablitz was a Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies , at the Käthe Hamburger Kolleg Morphomata in Cologne , and at the International College for Humanities Research “Fate, Freedom and Prediction. Coping strategies in East Asia and Europe ”in Erlangen, visiting scholar at the University of Washington and conférencier invité at the Collège de France .

Research priorities

Kablitz mainly deals with the older Italian literature, especially the great authors of the 13th and 14th centuries as well as with the more recent French literature. His comparative interests apply to ancient texts as well as German and English literature. An important area of ​​his research is his work on the theory of literature and its connection to philosophy.

Awards and memberships

In 1997 he was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG). Since 1998 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation . Kablitz is a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences , since 2006 a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and since 2007 a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina . In 2016 he was elected chairman of the cultural studies section and senator of the Leopoldina.

In 2010 he was appointed commendatore des Ordine della Stella della Solidarietà Italiana by the Italian President Giorgio Napolitano . Kablitz has been a member of the International Advisory Board of Dante Studies since 2015 .

Kablitz was editor of the Italian Studies , the Romanica Monacensia and the Romance Yearbook . Since 1994 he has published the writings and lectures of the Petrarca Institute in Cologne , and since 2015 Kablitz has been the editor in charge of the comparative journal POETICA .
