Andreas Nagel (born November 7, 1964 in Hagen, Bremen ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

The goalkeeper Andreas Nagel began his career at Hagener SV in Lower Saxony near Bremen. Between 1981 and 1983 he completed 21 international junior matches for Germany. At the U-16 European Championship , which was held for the first time , Nagel became Vice European Champion with the DFB selection. The final on May 7, 1982 in Falcona Marittima against hosts Italy ended 0: 1. In May 1983 he took part with the German national team in the finals of the U-18 European Championship in England. He played all three preliminary round matches (1: 3 against Czechoslovakia, 1: 0 against Sweden, 3: 1 against Bulgaria), but could not prevent his team from being eliminated early. In the summer of 1983, Nagel moved to Bundesliga club Bayer 04 Leverkusen , where he was mostly behind Rüdiger Vollborn . Nagel played his first Bundesliga game on October 12, 1985 in a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund . In the summer of 1988, Nagel moved to Hannover 96 . When Hannover no longer had a chance of staying up, Nagel was used in the last four games of the season. In the following second division season, Nagel was only used four times. In 1991, Nagel moved to FC Gütersloh , with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga twice in a row in 1995 and 1996. Andreas Nagel played five Bundesliga and four second division games.

During his time in Leverkusen, Nagel completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at Bayer AG. After his playing career, he graduated from the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences with a degree in business administration. Nagel has been employed by DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH in Frankfurt am Main since April 2002, where he is Director of Sports & Young Talent.
