Andreas Schüle

Andreas Schüle (born December 7, 1968 in Bad Cannstatt ) is a German Protestant theologian and ancient orientalist.

Life

Andreas Schüle studied Protestant theology and ancient oriental studies at the University of Heidelberg from 1991 to 1997. In 1998 he was awarded a doctorate with a thesis on the syntax of ancient Hebrew inscriptions. phil. PhD. In 2001 the doctorate to Dr. theol. in the subject of the Old Testament with a thesis on Baleamperikope (Num 22–24). From 1999 to 2005 he was a research assistant in Heidelberg at Michael Welker's chair . From 2003 to 2004 he was also a lecturer in Hebrew at the University of Zurich . After his habilitation in 2005 in the subject of Old Testament in Zurich , he was appointed Associate Professor of Old Testament at the Union Theological Seminary (Richmond, VA) in 2005. In 2006 he was appointed Full Service Professor of Old Testament and in 2007 Aubrey Lee Brooks Professor of Biblical Theology. Since 2012 he has been teaching as professor of theology and exegesis of the Old Testament and head of the Judaism Research Center at the University of Leipzig . Also since 2012 he has been Extraordinary Professor of Biblical Studies at Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and visiting professor at Trinity Theological College (Singapore). Schüle is an honorary pastor at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig and an advisory board member of the Rabbinical Seminary in Berlin.

His main research interests are Old Testament theology and anthropology, newer Christian and Jewish biblical hermeneutics, exegesis of the Pentateuch (Genesis 1–11) and exilic-post-exilic scriptural prophecy (Tritojesaja).
