Map from Andree's General Handbook

Andree's General Handbook is a work of cartography . The atlas is named after Richard Andree (1835–1912) and was published from 1881 to 1937 by the Velhagen & Klasing publishers in Bielefeld and Leipzig .

Andree originally used chromolithographic plates instead of copperplate engravings and was thus able to offer maps with good resolution and detailed reproduction at an affordable price. With the exception of the 1937 edition, which was produced in offset printing , "the Andree" was reproduced using zinc plates in the letterpress process , which allows finer color gradations.

The first edition appeared in 1881. The fourth and fifth editions were edited by Albert Scobel (1851–1912), the sixth to eighth by Ernst Ambrosius and the last by Konrad Frenzel. The cartographers were G. Jungk († 1932), R. Köcher († 1958), E. Umbreit († 1904), A. Thomas († 1930), H. Mielisch († 1925) and K. Tänzler († 1944). Individual maps were also produced by other geographic institutes such as Peip, Wagner & Debes, Sternkopf and Sulzer.

A geographic manual for Andrees Handatlas was published in 1882, 1894, 1895 (2nd edition), 1898–1899 (3rd), 1902 (4th) and 1909 (5th).
