Andrej Očenáš

Andrej Očenáš (born January 8, 1911 in Selce , † April 8, 1995 in Bratislava ) was a Slovak composer.

Life

Očenáš studied in Bratislava with Alexander Moyzes and from 1938 in Prague with Vítězslav Novák . From 1949 to 1954 he taught at the Slovak Conservatory in Pressburg. From 1958 to 1962 he headed the music department of the Slovak Radio, after which he taught composition at the Conservatory until 1972 and until 1982 at the University of Music in Bratislava . Until 1970 he was first secretary of the Slovak composers' association. He composed a stage play based on folk songs , a sinfonietta, a symphonic trilogy and a symphonic tetralogy, three orchestral suites, a piano and a cello concerto, a concerto for cimbal, strings and piano, chamber music works, piano pieces, cantatas , choral works and songs .
