Andrew Francis (born November 29, 1946 in Adah, Pakistan , † June 6, 2017 in Lahore , Pakistan) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Multan .

Life

Andrew Francis, a punjabi , studied at Christ the King Seminary in Karachi and was ordained a priest on January 10, 1972.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Multan in the Pakistani province of Punjab on December 3, 1999 . The episcopal ordination donated him on 26 February 2000 in Lahore Archbishop Alessandro D'Errico , Apostolic Nuncio in Pakistan; Co- consecrators were Simeon Anthony Pereira , Archbishop of Karachi , and Joseph Coutts , Bishop of Faisalabad . His motto was Veni Creator Spiritus! ("Come, Creator Spirit!"). On June 13, 2014, Pope Francis accepted his early resignation.

Act

Andrew Francis was a member of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue , the International Commission on English in Liturgy (ICEL) and the Minorities Commission of the Government of Pakistan.

Andrew Francis was chairman of the Center for Legal Aid, Assistance, and Settlement (CLAAS) , a human rights organization that provides legal protection for victims of the blasphemy laws in Pakistan . The center operates the Apna Gah in Lahore, a women's refuge for Christian and Muslim girls.

As the representative of the Pakistani Bishops' Conference for interreligious and interdenominational dialogue and has been committed to the reconciliation of Christians, Muslims and Hindus , especially taking into account the near war in Afghanistan . To this end, he set up over 40 schools where children of all religions are taught and given a daily meal.

Andrew Francis had numerous personal relationships in Germany and Austria.

Andrew Francis survived an assassination attempt in Lahore in 1996. After a car accident in 2013, he was paralyzed and dependent on a wheelchair.
