James Paul Andrew "Andy" David Scott (born June 30, 1949 in Wrexham ( Wales )) is a British musician , songwriter , producer and guitarist for the rock band The Sweet .

Life

Born in 1949 in North Wales, Scott grew up with three siblings. He first graduated from secondary school, then did an apprenticeship as a banker . Then began his career as a musician.

At first Scott played the bass guitar in various bands such as Missing Links , Silverstone Set , The Cool , Scaffold and Mayfield's Mule , later, in the late 1960s , he took over the vocals and played lead guitar with the Elastic Band .

In 1970, Scott came across an ad in the British music magazine Melody Maker , in which a guitarist for a "promising band" was wanted. After a casting , he joined The Sweet. His first concert with The Sweet was on September 26, 1970 at The Windsor Ballroom in Redcar, England . With Scott as lead guitarist, The Sweet became the most commercially successful British glam rock group of the 1970s .

1978 the arguments with the previous singer of the band, Brian Connolly , became too big and this was excluded from the band. The success of Andy Scott and the other two members of The Sweet, Mick Tucker ( drums ) and Steve Priest (bass), declined.

After the band was dissolved in 1982, it was reunited in 1985 by Andy Scott and Mick Tucker. The other musicians were Paul Mario Day (previously Iron Maiden ) as lead singer, Phil Lanzon (previously Grand Prix , then Uriah Heep ) as keyboardist and Mal McNulty (previously Weapon ) as bassist. After Tucker left in 1991, the band name changed to Andy Scott's Sweet .

The line-up changed frequently from now on, Scott was a permanent member of the band. He is still touring today with Pete Lincoln (lead vocals , bass , previously with Cliff Richard , Shakin 'Stevens and Sailor ), Tony O'Hora ( keyboard / guitar, vocals, previously Praying Mantis , Onslaught ) and Bruce Bisland ( drums , previously Praying Mantis), again under the name The Sweet. Andy Scott was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009 , which he survived after treatment. He then became involved in the early detection and control of the disease. For example, he was a main organizer of the first charity concert "Rock Against Cancer" in All Cannings, Wiltshire in May 2012. Brian May and Midge Ure led the concert with him.

Scott married his girlfriend in 1971, and they later divorced. Their son was born on October 14, 1972. On July 1, 1991, Scott remarried; this marriage also ended in divorce. Andy Scott now lives near Devizes in Wiltshire.
