Angelo Quaglio the Younger (born December 13, 1829 in Munich , † January 5, 1890 in Munich) was a German theater decoration painter and interior designer.

Life

Quaglio received his first lessons from his father, the painter Simon Quaglio , and from Franz Adam and went to Carl Gropius in Berlin and Charles-Antoine Cambon in Paris . Back in Munich in 1850, he was court theater painter and his father's first assistant. In 1854/55 Quaglio went on study trips to Paris, Brussels , Berlin, Dresden and Hanover and in 1860 became head of the decoration department at the Court Theater in Munich. The drafts for the works of Richard Wagner , which took his wishes into account, as well as for the private performances of King Ludwig II , established the international reputation of his workshop. From 1865–80 Quaglio also worked for the theater in Dresden and for the court stages in Berlin, Stuttgart, Hanover and St. Petersburg. Quaglio created the sets for the world premiere of Richard Wagner's operas Tannhäuser (1845), Lohengrin (1850) and Tristan und Isolde (1865)

His grave is in the old southern cemetery in Munich. He was the father of Eugen Quaglio (born April 3, 1857 in Munich, † September 25, 1942 in Berlin).
