Plant mechanic

The plant mechanic is a state-recognized training occupation in Germany according to the Vocational Training Act .

Work areas

Plant mechanics manufacture components and assemble them into assemblies, plants or devices . They carry out maintenance work or changes to systems, but can also carry out setting, care and maintenance work. You will find your job in companies in the field of plant, apparatus and container construction . But you can also work for ventilation and supply technology companies.

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a system mechanic is usually three and a half years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . It is a mono job , the training of which can be deepened in the following areas:

• Plant construction,
• Apparatus and container construction,
• Maintenance,
• Pipe system technology,
• Welding technology.

Other areas of application are possible if the specified contents of the training regulations can be conveyed.

History of origin

The training occupation replaces the training regulations from 1987. The previously existing fields of apparatus technology, welding technology and supply technology were transferred to the areas of application listed above. The new training regulations take into account the increasing business process orientation. The extended final examination was also tried out between 2004 and 2007 . The occupation includes and replaces the occupations of heating and ventilation engineer and gas-water installer.
