Ann Marriner Tomey

Ann Marriner Tomey (* 1943 ) is an American nursing scientist and emeritus professor . Her scientific interest is primarily in research into the nursing process and nursing management .

Tomey graduated from Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and received her BS from the University of Colorado . After further studies she gained there also their MS and a PhD in the subject nursing. Before her retirement, she taught nursing science at Indiana State University in Terre Haute .

Publications (selection)

Tomey has published over 300 scientific publications, including 38 books on nursing process and management and nursing theory that have been translated into several languages.

Awards and memberships

Tomey has served as Chair of the Midwest Alliance in Nursing , President of the Indiana State Nurses' Association , the Alpha Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, and Vice President of the Council on Graduate Education for Administration in Nursing . She served on the board of the Nursing Administration Research Section of the Midwest Nursing Research Society and is a member of the American Academy of Nursing . She received the Sigma Theta Tau International Founders Award and the Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing, among other awards for outstanding teaching . In 1999 she received the President's Medal for Excellence . In 2000 she received the Theodore Dreiser Distinguished Research and Creativity Award for her research .
