Anna von Krane (born January 26, 1853 in Darmstadt as Anna Antonie Amalinde Freiin von Krane ; † January 3, 1937 in Düsseldorf ) was a German writer .

Life

Anna von Krane came from a Protestant officer family . Since her mother's death in 1858, her father suffered from a mental illness, and Anna von Krane was taken care of by a strict teacher . After showing an early interest in drawing , but also in writing literary texts, she moved with her father to Düsseldorf in 1886 , where she received drawing lessons at the art academy . In 1888 she converted to Catholicism against her father's wishes . After choosing literary writing as a profession, she worked as a freelance writer from 1891, again against her father's wishes . The father died in 1893. Anna von Krane maintained contacts with the family of the center politician Georg von Hertling and was friends with the author and later Queen of Romania Elisabeth zu Wied and Marie von Erbach-Schönberg . From 1910 to 1913 Anna von Krane lived in Munich , then again in Düsseldorf. In 1926 she developed a severe rheumatic disease ; from 1934 she lived in a nursing home . She was buried in a grave of honor in the Düsseldorf North Cemetery. Anna-von-Krane-Strasse in Düsseldorf-Lohausen is named after her.

Anna von Krane was the author of novels , stories , legends , fairy tales , poems and plays . While her early narrative works were partly autobiographical , partly settled in the artistic milieu, her works that appeared from 1907 - often in the form of legends - are predominantly to be assigned to Catholic devotional literature. The most successful were her tales of Christ , published under the title Vom Menschensohn , and the novel Magna peccatrix about the biblical figure of Mary Magdalene .

During the dispute between Anna von Krane and Sophie Pataky (* 1860) in 1898 , Helene Wachsmuth (1844–1931), who was chairwoman of the German Writers' Association at the time, tried to get a reply in favor of Sophie Pataky. The editor of the magazine Das Recht der Feder , Martin Hildebrand, declined this request.
