Annales Sangallenses maiores

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Annales Sangallenses maiores ( Latin for Greater St. Gallen Yearbooks ) are annals from the Prince Abbey of St. Gallen for the period from 709 to 1056, which for their older part (up to 918) are based on the Annales Alamannici and were then independently continued. The oldest tradition, begun in the tenth century, can be found in Codex Sangallensis 915, a chapter office book, on pages 196 to 236. Additions can be found in the copy in the second oldest chapter office book, the Cod. Sang. 453 from the twelfth century, pp. 211–235. Following the news of the death of Henry III. In the year 1056, with which the annals end, there is a report about the donation of relics from the Holy Land to the monastery of Sankt Gallen in 1180.
