In 1971 she was a member of the committee that launched the Federal People's Initiative “for impunity for the termination of pregnancy” . Also in 1971 she was a driving force behind the founding of the Swiss Working Group for Population Issues (SAfB), later renamed ECOPOP , and helped shape the association as secretary from 1971 to 1988. In 1973 she co-founded the Swiss Association for the Impunity of Abortion (SVSS). From 1987 to 1995 she was a representative of theSocial Democratic Party (SP) Member of the Bern canton parliament. She was married and had three children.

In her autobiographical book, she describes the fate of the last women who were convicted of illegal abortion in Switzerland in the 1980s. She describes in detail the more than 30-year-old political struggle in which she herself was significantly involved until the deadline regulation came into force in October 2002 .

From 2007 until her death she took over the secretariat of the APAC-Suisse (Association de professionnels de l'avortement et de la contraception), a working group of experts who are involved in the field of unwanted pregnancy and contraception.

Because of her conviction that everyone has the right to reproductive self-determination and that this right should also be available to poorer women, she also supported the ECOPOP initiative . Among other things, she was a member of the initiative's support committee and appeared in the second row for the initiative on the arena show on Swiss television to vote in 2014.
