Career

Schleper attended St. Cloud Cathedral High School in her native St. Cloud , Minnesota , during her high school years between 2004 and 2008 . At the end of the same, she took part with the U18 selection of the US ice hockey association USA Hockey at the U18 World Junior Championship, which was held for the first time in 2008 . There she won the world title with the team, in which the defender played a major role.

Following this success, Schleper moved because of her studies to the University of Minnesota , with whose ice hockey team she was active in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the winter of 2008, the then 18-year-old was also appointed to the women's national ice hockey team in the United States for the first time and made her debut at the 4 Nations Cup in 2008 . Still, the defender initially focused on her studies and college activities. After her second season, she was voted the best defensive player in the WCHA. At the end of the 2010/11 season, she finally played her first world title fights with the 2011 World Cup . There, too, she finished the tournament by winning the gold medal.

As a result, Schleper continued to be successful and, in addition to completing her studies, also secured the national NCAA college championship with the university team. This was followed by winning the silver medal at the 2012 World Cup . After leaving university, the defensive player moved to the Canadian Women's Hockey League , where she spent the 2012/13 season with the Boston Blades , with which she won the Clarkson Cup . She also secured her second gold medal at the 2013 World Cup and was then recruited by USA Hockey so that she could prepare for the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . Schleper returned from the Olympic Games with the silver medal.

The defender only played for the non-league Minnesota Whitecaps in the following two years to stay in shape. In addition, she completed the 2015 World Cup , which she again finished by winning the same. During the 2016/17 season , Schleper returned to league play and played six games for the Buffalo Beauts from the National Women's Hockey League . In February 2017, two weeks after her 27th birthday and during the current season, she announced her withdrawal from active sports.
