The Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium is located in the center of the Westphalian city of Münster and is currently attended by 1248 students.

history

The school was founded in 1690 by a Fräulein (demoiselle) de la Branche. At that time it was the first girls' school in town. Although the first girls' school in Westphalia was founded in Paderborn in 1658 by the French choir women of St. Michael, this was a school run by the Catholic Church. In contrast, the Demoisellen-Schule, as the grammar school was called at the time it was founded, was the first secular, privately financed girls' school in Westphalia.

In 1921 the school became municipal sponsorship and has been named after the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff ever since . The school has been co-educational since 1975 .

Focus of work

As part of the language profile of the school, the following foreign languages ​​are taught as regular subjects: English (from grade 5), Spanish (from grades 5, 6, 8 or year 10), French, Latin (from year 6, 8 or year 10). 10), Chinese (from the age of 10) . Due to its special scientific profile, the Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium is a member of the Association of Mathematical and Scientific Excellence Centers at Schools e. V. ( MINT-EC ). The social science department cooperates with the Institute for Economic Education at the Westphalian Wilhelms University and thus receives scientific support and impulses within the framework of current research results.

There is also a close cooperation with the rowing club Münster von 1882 e. V. The Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium assumes the position as a partner school for competitive sports and can also use the rowing club's boat park in addition to its own boats.

In 2007, the school received the “Individual Promotion Seal of Approval” from the Ministry of Education for the individual support of both particularly talented and poor students. In April 2010 the school was awarded the “First School Prize NRW for the Promotion of the Gifted” by the Foundation Education for the Promotion of the Gifted and the State Association of Business Associations in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium is also a European school .

The Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium maintains partnerships with several schools in a total of five countries, with which there are regular student exchanges. The oldest partnership is with the girls' school Gray Coat Hospital in London, founded in 1698 . The first student exchange took place as early as 1947 and school friends have existed since 1952. Other partner schools in England are the Westcliff High School For Boys , with which the first student exchange took place in 1981, and the Southend High School For Girls 1995, both located in Southend-on-Sea , since 1995 . Only since 2007 has there been a student exchange with St. Thomas More High School in Southend-on-Sea, where the students complete a ten-day internship as a special feature.

Partner schools in France are the Collège St. Dominique and the Collège Sainte Marie in Rouen , the Collège La Guyonnerie in Bures-sur-Yvette and the Lycée de la Communication in Metz . The Spanish partner school is the IES Monte das Moas in A Coruña . Since the late 1980s there has also been a student exchange with the Polish school I. Liceum in Dąbrowa Górnicza . In 2009 a student exchange took place for the first time with the National Fengshan Senior High School in Taiwan .
