When attack in a London subway at 15 September 2017 came at 8:20 pm an explosion in a subway train the District Line , as this at the above-ground station Parsons Green held. 30 passengers were injured. The police classified the incident as a terrorist act .

An unconventional explosive and incendiary device was detonated in the railcar , which was hidden in a plastic bag. The explosive device had a detonator made from a string of lights and a clock. Since the acetone peroxide used was manufactured incorrectly, there was no explosion , but a deflagration . The 2.2 kg of scrap metal that was attached to the bomb as fragmentation material did not cause any damage, but several people suffered burns from the fireball that was created during the deflagration. Then panic broke out among the passengers.

The attack was the tenth terrorist attack in London in one year.

The number of casualties was given as 30 on September 17, most of them were burned .

Investigations

On September 16, 2017, an 18-year-old man from Iraq was arrested in the port of Dover on suspicion of a terrorist offense. He was initially due to remain in custody until September 23, 2017, to be questioned. On September 17, 2017, a 21-year-old Syrian was arrested as a suspect in the London borough of Hounslow . Both people were refugees and had lived as foster children with the same foster parents in Sunbury-on-Thames near London. On September 20, 2017, Scotland Yard announced that they had arrested a 25-year-old man as a third suspect in Newport, Wales on September 19, 2017 and two other suspects, a 30-year-old and a 48-year-old, in Wales. The sixth suspect was a 17-year-old man arrested in Thornton Heath on September 21, 2017 . House searches were carried out at three addresses . Another arrest was made on September 25th.

On September 22, was charged brought against the 18-year-old Iraqi refugee for attempted murder and the illegal use of explosives. All others arrested were released between September 21 and 27 and are no longer under investigation.

The proceedings against the prime suspect, an 18-year-old Iraqi, began in March 2018. The accused had come from the Calais jungle on board a truck through the Channel Tunnel to England in October 2015 . He applied for asylum, had no papers and stated that he was born in June 1999. In his asylum application, he had stated that he had been forcibly recruited and trained by IS in Iraq, but that he had taken the opportunity to break away in an attack by the Iraqi army.

The jury found the Iraqi guilty of attempted murder on March 19, 2018. The court found that the Iraqi lied about his age and was at least 21 years old. The sentence was set at 34 years in prison on March 23, 2018.

Reactions

Prime Minister Theresa May and Sadiq Khan , the Mayor of London, condemned the attack.

The British Joint Terrorism Analysis Center continued the terror alert from 15 to 17 September 2017. 'Severe' ( seriously ) to the highest alert level 'Critical' ( critical ). For the second time in British history, Operation Temperer was triggered, with up to 5100 British soldiers assisting the police. Previously, this had only been done in the terrorist attack in Manchester on May 22, 2017 .

In a message in the Amaq News Agency , the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS) assumed responsibility on the same day. Interior Minister Amber Rudd told the BBC on September 17 that there was no evidence suggesting IS involvement.

US President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that Scotland Yard had these "sick and deranged" perpetrators in their sights. Trump's comments were described by Theresa May as "not helpful" and she characterized the tweets as speculation.
