The Antarctic silverfish ( Pleuragramma antarctica ) is a member of the Antarctic cod family (Nototheniidae) within the perch-like (Perciformes). They reach a body length of about 25 centimeters.

The animals live exclusively in the area of the Antarctic waters between 60 ° and 78 ° south latitude and at water temperatures of around 2 to −1.8 degrees Celsius . This fish, along with some others in this region, produces so-called antifreeze glycoproteins .

The Antarctic silverfish are an important source of food, especially for the fish-eating animals in this region, such as penguins and seals . They themselves feed on copepods and krill .
