Anthocercis ilicifolia is a plant type from the genus Anthocercis in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Anthocercis ilicifolia is an upright shrub up to 2.7 m tall that consists of one or two trunks. The twigs are often covered with purple, twigs and leaves are hairless or only rarely covered with isolated, glandular trichomes . The seedlings have spikes along the trunk. The leaves are ovate to narrowly ovate-elliptical, occasionally spatulate or elliptical. They are completely or almost sessile, 7 to 35 mm long, with entire margins or also toothed on young leaves.

The inflorescences are panicle-shaped and have leaves only at the base. The flower stalks are 3 to 8 mm long, the calyx reaches 4 to 8 mm. The color of the crown is bright yellow, with purple to maroon stripes, the corolla tube is often tinged with purple on the outside. The crown reaches lengths of 12 to 27 mm, the corolla lobes are linear, 6 to 18 mm long and 3 to 6 mm wide. The stamens are 4 to 10 mm long.

The fruits are narrowly ovate-elliptical, pointed to pointed capsules with a length of 11 to 21 mm. The seeds are 1.4 to 1.9 mm long.

Occurrence and locations

The species is widespread on the southwestern coast of Western Australia and occurs in an area between Kalbarri and Perth . There it grows in calcareous sandy soils and is often found in colonies after fires or other disturbances.

Systematics

Two subspecies are distinguished within the species:

  • Anthocercis ilicifolia subsp. ilicifolia
  • Anthocercis ilicifolia subsp. caldariola Haegi

Both subspecies can be distinguished by the shape of the calyx tube: With subsp. ilicifolia it is funnel-shaped, with subsp. caldariola, however, bulbous.
