Antigonish County is a county on the north coast of the eastern Canadian province of Nova Scotia . The administrative unit located on Northumberlandstrasse had 19,589 inhabitants in 2011 on an area of 1,457.81 km². The administrative headquarters are in Antigonish , which is connected to the rest of the transport network via Nova Scotia Highway 104 .
history
As Sydney County was first established in 1784 as an administrative unit in this area, the limits of which were set on December 16, 1785. In 1822 it was enlarged by the incorporation of the St. Mary Township, which since its founding in 1818 was also part of Halifax County . A reduction was made in 1836 by the split from Guysborough County .
Communities
In Antigonish County there is the town of Antigonish. All other settlements are not independent ( incorporated villages ) and are co-administered by the county administration under the name Municipality of the County of Antigonish .
