Antoinette of Saxe-Altenburg
Antoinette Charlotte Marie Josephine Karoline Frida von Sachsen-Altenburg (born April 17, 1838 in Bamberg , † October 13, 1908 in Berchtesgaden ) was a princess of Sachsen-Altenburg and by marriage Duchess of Anhalt .
Life
Antoinette was a daughter of Prince Eduard von Sachsen-Altenburg (1804–1852) from his first marriage to Amalie (1815–1841), daughter of Prince Karl von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen .
She married the future Duke Friedrich I of Anhalt (1831–1904) in Altenburg on April 22, 1854 . The marriage was concluded for dynastic reasons and Antoinette married one of the richest German federal princes. A commemorative medal was struck on the occasion of the wedding.
Together with her daughter-in-law Marie, she initiated the foundation of the Anhalt Diakonissenanstalt in 1892. The Antoinettenweg in the Selketal , the Antoinettenstraße and the Antoinettenlyzeum in Dessau are named after the Duchess .
