Research priorities

Garzya mainly worked on the philosophy of editions on ancient, late ancient and Byzantine literature of the Greeks. The focus of ancient literature was on archaic choral poetry ( Alkman ) and elegy ( Theognis ), classical tragedy ( Euripides ) and its reception in the new comedy ( Menander ) and its reception in the Roman comedy ( Plautus ). At the end of the 1950s he turned to late antique ( Synesios of Cyrene , Prokopios of Gaza ) and Byzantine literature ( Nikephoros Basilakas , approx. 1115 - shortly after 1182; Theodoros Prodromos ). Even out-of-the-way texts such as the treatise of a little- known Dionysus of Philadelphia on bird trapping and the Voskopula , an anonymously passed down pastoral poem from the time of the Cretan Renaissance, attracted his attention. In the 1990s he turned to Greek medicine of antiquity , late antiquity ( Oreibasios , Aëtios von Amida , Alexander von Tralleis , Paulos von Aigina , Cassius Iatrosofista ) and the Middle Ages . For many of these authors and texts he published critical editions in the Bibliotheca scriptorum graecorum et romanorum Teubneriana and the Collection Budé (Les Belles Lettres).
