Antonio del Castillo y Saavedra learned painting first from his father Agustín del Castillo and after his death in 1626 from a painter of religious images by the name of Ignacio Aedo Calderón. He later learned in Seville from Francisco de Zurbarán and his uncle Juan del Castillo , who went down in art history as the teacher of the three great Andalusian painters Cano , Murillo and De Moya . In 1635 he returned to Cordoba. There he mainly painted religious frescoes and oil paintings. Many of his works can still be seen in church buildings in and around his hometown today.
